MINISTRY OF LECTORS
What is this ministry about?
The Word of God always needs to be proclaimed reverently and confidently[1] – but this does not just happen by chance. As representatives of the ministry of lectors we read the Word of God (with the exception of the Gospel) publicly throughout the Sunday masses.
To do this, we individually reflect on the Scriptures before the Sunday liturgy, taking special notice of difficult passages and the need for any pauses or emphasis. Communally we receive organized and relevant instruction on the Faith, and the service that we perform, from the pastor.
How much time is involved?
Since we are on a rotational basis, the frequency with which one might read depends on how many active lectors there are at any given time. It will also be necessary to make room in your schedule for instructional sessions when they arise; and of course, weekly reflection on the upcoming Bible passages.
Who should get involved?
If you think that you can read clearly, reverently and confidently, and of course if you have a love for the Word of God, then consider coming out for an information session or contact the parish office at 905-655-3286.
