Baptism
Baptismal Team: Father Charles Forget (Pastor) and Brenda Beriault (Baptism Coordinator)
The Baptismal process is as follows:
- Speak to Father Charles after any Sunday mass to inquire about Baptism for your child.
- Pick up the Baptismal information kit and fill out the enclosed Registration Form, and return it to the parish office either directly to Pat Busby, the parish secretary, or place it in the parish mail box outside the parish office door.
- In about a week, you will receive a phone call from Brenda Beriault, the Baptism coordinator, who will review your information and set a date for your mandatory Baptismal class and the Sacrament of Baptism.
- Attend a Baptismal meeting. Parents and Godparents, if possible, attend the instructions. The meeting generally runs about an hour. Failure to attend the meeting will postpone the Baptism to a later date. Since this is an evening meeting and bedtime for small children, please arrange for a babysitter if possible.
- Celebrate the Baptism with your family and friends.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Is there a registration fee?
Yes. The registration fee is $50 per child. However, if there is financial difficulty something may be arranged with the pastor.
Who can I choose for godparents?
You can have one or two godparents for your child but if you choose two then they must be of the opposite sex. One or both of the godparents must be a Baptized and Confirmed Catholic who is practicing their Catholic faith. If one of the godparents is not a Baptized and Confirmed Catholic he/she may be a Christian witness.
Do the godparents have to attend the evening of instruction?
The godparents should try to attend but it is not an absolute necessity.
What should my child wear for the celebration?
While traditionally parents have dressed their children in white to signify the child’s purity from original sin after baptism, there really is no such need. The white garment that will be placed over your child after baptism already does this. Whatever you choose for your child keep in mind that this is a formal occasion and is a sacrament like a Catholic wedding, deserving the same respect.
Where are the instruction nights?
They are held at St. Leo the Great’s parish hall with entrance from the south side of the building.
